As the work package lead for communication and management support, ESF is pleased to announce the release of the BRYOMOLECULES documentary showcasing the potential of mosses and liverworts for sustainable applications in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

About BRYOMOLECULES

The BRYOMOLECULES project is an EU-funded initiative that aims to conduct the first large-scale, systematic search for bioactive compounds, focusing on European bryophyte species

Exploring the World of Bryophytes

The 10-minute video produced by the ESF communication team highlights the uniqueness of these plants and their potential role in the bioeconomy. Viewers are introduced to liverworts as an ancient group of land plants and guided through their hidden chemical diversity. The video explains why these species have remained underexplored, presenting the challenges of cultivating them in nature and the innovative scientific breakthroughs that will make their large-scale production and use possible. Through expert interviews and scientific insights, the documentary shows how research on bryophytes can open new doors for sustainable, bio-based ingredients in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.

Behind the Scenes of the Documentary

Over the past few months, the ESF communication team has collaborated closely with project partners across Europe, visiting their laboratories and field sites to capture footage and conduct interviews. These exchanges provided an opportunity to learn more about their scientific expertise and to capture the progress being made within the project.
