ESF plays a supportive and enabling role in research system reform by working with and for organisations that lead science policy development and advice. We offer expert coordination, implementation support, and secretariat services to networks and institutions that shape research agendas across Europe.
Hosting Strategic Coalitions
ESF provides trusted hosting, operational, and organisational support for leading policy-shaping coalitions that lead European research system transformation. These include:
Coordinating and participating in EU-funded projects

Policy alignment of open access monographs in the European Research Area

ESF’s role includes
- Secretariat and back-office support
- Coordination of governance and operations, setting up tools and platforms for shared learning and progress monitoring
- Member engagement, providing support in designing action plans and timelines, managing working groups and thematic hubs
- Event organisation
- Communication and dissemination support
Through these efforts, ESF supports the actors who define research policy frameworks, helping ensure they function effectively and inclusively.
