The main goal of the present meeting is to form a consortium and prepare an EU FP 7 project proposal (Climate Change, Fragmentation, Genetic Consequences) on the genetic consequences of global climatic change in some selected insect, amphibian and plant species.

Joint ConGen-ThermAdapt Workshop on "Evolutionary and Physiological Adaptation to Climate Induced Environmental Changes"

Knowledge on the ability of organisms to respond and adapt to the environment is important for understanding the consequences of climate change on the distribution and abundance of species. Numerous recent studies indicate that the changes in temperature means and variances will pose challenges for a number of species and that the fast speed by which changes occurs leaves little space for species to adapt through evolutionary changes (Hoffmann et al. 2003). To understand the mechanisms behind thermal adaptation insight is needed from several biological levels. In this workshop, we will merge knowledge from population genetics and molecular and evolutionary physiology in a multidisciplinary fashion and discuss possible approaches to get a deeper understanding of mechanisms behind adaptation to thermal changes.
