Behavioural Ecology of Insect Parasitoids - from theoretical approaches to field applications (BEPAR)

2008 - 2007 - 2006 - 2005

Science Meetings 2008

Workshop: "Adaptative Dynamics of Parasitoids"
Rennes, France - 4-6 June 2008

ConvenorsJacques van Alphen & Joan van Baaren

The workshop will bring together leading scientists in the field of adaptive dynamics with experts on parasitoid behavioural ecology, in the aim to advance our understanding of the evolution of parasitoid diversity by adaptive speciation by host and habitat shifts. It second aim is to study how behvavioural ecological theory can be merged with adaptive dynamics to study host shifts in parasitoids in adaptive dynamics models rich in behavioural details.

Workshop: "Genetic and Genomic Approaches for Parasitoid Behavioural Ecology"
Edinburgh, United Kingdom - 5-6 June 2008

Convenors: Leo Beukeboom, Jetske de Boer, Bart Pannebakker, David Shuker & Louis van de Zande

This ESF-supported workshop aims to bring together parasitoid researchers interested in the behaviour and ecology of parasitoid insects, to explore how new genetic and genomic techniques can inform and enhance our research. Whilst our focus through the invited speakers is on genetic approaches, we wish to encourage as broad a range of participants as possible, including those with little or no genetics background. This way we hope to facilitate interactions between parasitoid researchers using different techniques to answer similar questions, as well as highlight new questions that we need to address. As such, we particularly would like to encourage early-stage researchers to attend.

School: "Chemical Approaches to Parasitoids Behavioural Ecology"
Nottingham, United Kingdom - 4-8 September 2008

Convenors: Ian Hardy & Felix Wäckers

This Summer School will introduce chemically based considerations to 25 European students of pure and applied parasitoid behavioural ecology. It will teach a range of modern techniques for chemical analysis and their application to parasitoid behaviour and ecology via discussion and laboratory demonstration. Particular foci will be: the emission and detection of volatile chemicals in interactions between parasitoids, hosts and plants, non-volatile chemicals in intra-specific interactions, the chemistry of parasitoid nutrition.

Deadline for applications: 20 June 2008
