Webinar: Towards safer sports environment: changing MEN’talities
SUPPORTER, an EU-funded project coordinated by ESF, aims to advance inclusive gender+ equality in the European Research Area (ERA). This initiative supports eight higher education institutions from Central and Eastern Europe, in designing and implementing gender equality plans with a particular focus on addressing gender-based violence.
As part of its efforts to raise awareness about gender equality, SUPPORTER is hosting a webinar scheduled on 5 February from 14:00 to 15:30 (GMT+1) titled Towards Safer Sports Environments: Changing MEN’talities. During this session, Daniel Alsarve, an associate professor and researcher in Sports Science at Örebro University, will explore how violence in sports mirrors broader societal expectations of masculinity, where aggression and dominance are often equated with respect and social order. The webinar will also emphasize how creating gender-equitable behaviours can create positive outcomes for all genders, benefiting not only sports but society.
The significance of this webinar lies in understanding that sustainable change requires men to actively engage as advocates for gender equality. The event will shed light on the critical role of creating safe spaces for men to explore their identities, reflect on masculinities, and challenge harmful stereotypes. By doing so, men can become powerful allies in transforming social norms and addressing gender-based violence.
