Project Officer – Material Sciences

ESF Science Connect is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the support of excellent science through partnerships and support to scientific programmes. We operate in the EU and wider European environment and collaborate with major scientific stakeholders.  We invite applications for a Project Officer.

The mission of the position is to assist the science staff in supporting ESF’s materials science related projects and platforms, completing grant evaluation processes and, when applicable representing ESF to improve its visibility on the European research landscape.   
 
This position will involve:

  • Assisting the science staff in supporting the relevant Expert Boards and Committees within the  overall  ESF  Mission; supporting  strategic  activities  and  providing,  in  a  timely  manner, high-quality papers, minutes and reports; Supporting ESF activities including the implementation of European Projects with focus on materials science and engineering fields; 
  • Ensuring  compliance  with  external  contracts  through  full  and  timely  reporting,  liaising,  in coordination  with Administration and Finance, with external  partners  as  appropriate  and drafting proposals for future projects; Representing ESF in external meetings when necessary; 
  • Supporting the management of stakeholders and meetings; 
  • Informing the research community by proposing actions for science communication and preparing   appropriate material (material   for   hard   copy   publication, including annual activity reports, and for the Web) under supervision of relevant senior staff; Keeping up-to-date with relevant scientific and research policy developments. 

The Project Officer should demonstrate the following competencies: 

Specific competencies 

  • PhD or Master’s degree and preferably with a further 1-2 years’ research experience in physical or chemical sciences preferably Material sciences and engineering;
  • Basic knowledge of European and national research structures and institutions and European and international science policy;
  • Experience in scientific project management.
  • High standard of spoken and written English, with a working knowledge of another European language being an advantage;
  • Ability to draft, under supervision, concise and clear scientific documents;
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office systems and of electronic databases and Web sites (Scopus, ISI Web of Science, Google Scholar...).
  • Data analysis knowledge would be a plus.

  • The position is expected to be full-time (100% FTE) and will start as soon as possible;
  • The contract is offered for a duration of 18 months
  • The person selected for the position will be working from Strasbourg head office. The position will involve substantial travel.
