Patricia Cabezas

Dr. Patricia Cabezas is Junior Science Officer with ESF Science Connect. With extensive international experience in the research, education and policy arenas, Patricia is a creative and energetic researcher who brings strong analytical skill and expertise to all programmes. She is deeply committed to science as a key element for the advancement of research and innovation in Europe.

Patricia is the administrative and scientific co-ordinator of several European programmes including FP7 Mars Analogues for Space Exploration (MASE) and Horizon 2020 Planetary Protection of Outer Solar System (PPOSS). In her role, she also devises interdisciplinary pan-European research proposals and scientific programmes, and provides support to peer-review processes.

Prior to taking up her current role in 2015, Patricia participated in the Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Programme in the US National Academy of Sciences in Washington where she worked on international science and technology issues. She was also a postdoctoral researcher at Brigham Young University in Utah and at the US Smithsonian Institution in Washington.

Patricia was awarded a PhD in 2010 from the Autonomous University of Madrid (Spain) for her thesis on Molecular Evolution and Conservation Biology. She obtained a Bachelor of Science de-gree from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2005. She has been published in over 20 peer-review publications, and has also published two book chapters and a number of reports. Patricia speaks Spanish and English fluently. Patricia has worked in seven different countries, and when she is not in the office she pursues her passions for traveling and diving.
