Exploring the future of Green Open Access

European Commission Vice-President Neelie Kroes to open European conference presenting the findings of a collaboration between publishers, repositories, funders and researchers on Green Open Access.

The ESF Conferences Unit is currently supporting the PEER End of Project conference, to be held on 29 May 2012 at the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium asbl/vzw (FEB), in Brussels.

The conference will present the outcomes of the “Publishing and the Ecology of European Research” (PEER), a project supported by the EC eContentplus programme, which aims at investigating the results of the large-scale, systematic depositing of authors’ final peer-reviewed manuscripts (so called Green Open Access or stage-two research output). This is done through an “observatory” that monitors the impacts of systematic archiving on reader access, author visibility and journal viability, as well as on the broader ecology of European research.

Speakers at the event include representatives from PEER, as well as internationally recognised research experts. Moreover, exponents from the publishing, library/repository, funding and research stakeholder communities will participate in a round-table discussion about the effects, highlighted by PEER, that broad and systematic archiving of research outputs in open access repositories might have and will debate possible Green Open Access scenarios.

Participation is free, upon registration at https://www.research.net/s/peer-reg
