The Core Group membership is defined in the ESF Rules of Procedures available at www.esf.org/about-us/how-we-operate.
In general terms the Core Group should endeavour to achieve both a regional, gender and scientific balance. National Groups contributing more than 10% of the ESF General Budget have the right to a seat on the Core Group. A scheme for the rotation of Core Group membership will be established by each Committee. The Chief Executive shall have the responsibility to monitor Core Groups membership with regard to their balanced representation.
This means in practical terms for the EMRC that there is one delegate representing the following countries or group of countries:
- Nordic Medical Research Councils i.e., Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway*, Sweden.
- Southern European Countries i.e., Cyprus, Greece, Portugal, Spain*, Turkey
- Medium European Countries i.e., Austria, Belgium*, Ireland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, The Netherlands.
- Central & Eastern European Countries, i.e., Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic*, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia
