25 November 2010, Brussels
This Open Forum, organised by the Marine Board within the MARCOM+ project, will provide its participants with the opportunity to formulate recommendations on future collaborative mechanisms for marine and maritime research. Three key topics are suggested to ease the exchanges:
Such event appears particularly timely, since it will provide the first opportunity to reflect on the outcome of the EurOCEAN 2010 conference and its adopted Ostend Declaration, which called on the Member and Associated States of the European Union and the EU institutions, to recognise that “the seas and oceans are one of the Grand Challenges for the 21st Century”. Consolidated marine and maritime scientific advice would most certainly be an essential asset for Europe to address such challenge, and thus will be at the core of the discussion and brainstorming on 25 November 2010.

Open to representatives of the scientific community, relevant EU and Member States science and policy institutions, and industry sectors, the 2nd MARCOM+ Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss and debate proposal(s) on the structure and functions of a future European Marine and Maritime Science Partnership as called for in the European Strategy for Marine and Maritime Research (2008). The establishment of a European Marine and Maritime Science Partnership would inform the science (policy) developments, e.g. the Common Strategic Framework (CSF) for research and innovation funding.
