  • Update on ERIH "initial List": Oriental and African studies

The ERIH Steering Committee acknowledges the complexity that is inherent in the process of producing a categorized list of journals for all fields of Oriental and African Studies. Work on the list has not yet reached the level of maturity that allows for full application of the ERIH guidelines ( in particular as regards the distribution in the list of A, B and C journal categories). The publication of the list will therefore be further delayed until the appointed Expert Panel has completed its task.

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE regarding Expert Panels

Please do not contact Expert Panel members directly in order to give them your feedback about the ERIH “initial lists”.  Please note that an online feedback mechanism is available to interested parties to ensure that feedback about individual journals is submitted in a structured and secure manner. If you wish to make comments on the ERIH process in general, or on a number of “initial Lists”, please send your comments directly to the ERIH office

  • The ERIH documentation center is now available. Please find it here.

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE to Publishers and Editors

Though you may also be an Academic, please note that when providing feedback about a journal that you edit or publish it is of crucial importance for us that you identify yourself as Editor/Publisher in the feedback form, not as an Academic.

  • New format of ERIH lists

Up to now, statistics about the ERIH "initial Lists" have been published separately from the lists and in an aggregated form. The integrated "initial Lists" present details of language and place of publication on a journal by journal basis. The purpose of the integrated "initial Lists" is to support further the analysis of the ERIH lists. Also, we would be most obliged to hear from you if you want to correct, update or refine information about language and place of publication of a journal that you edit/publish.

  • Lists availability

Please note that the ERIH "initial lists" Art, Architectural and Design History; Literature; and Psychology have been published and are available here. A complete set of updated ERIH statistics are now also available.

May 2008

The ERIH 'initial' list statistics are being updated at present. They will be published in two batches on May 6 and May 13. A final batch of updated statistics will also be made available soon after.

Statements summarising the process and methodology that underpinned the work of the expert panels for Art and Art History, Literature and Psychology are currently being finalised. Therefore, those lists will not be published on May 13 as earlier indicated, but will be published as soon as such statements can be finalised for publication with the lists. Such statements will also be made available retrospectively for the lists that have already been published.

Feedback from publishers and editors

At present, the ERIH team is contacting editors/publishers of the journals included in the 'initial' lists directly in order to obtain more robust information on the journals. We believe that a sustained dialogue with editors and publishers is necessary in order to verify the eligibility and initial categorisation of the journals.

We ask you to study the documentation on the ERIH pages and to give us entails of your journal(s) using the feedback form provided for the purpose. We can only process feedback obtained via the form. It is very important for us to receive your input, because without it we may not be able to include your journal(s) in the updated version of ERIH in 2008.

Please note also that the feedback mechanism is open to all researchers, editors, publishers and other interested parties and if you wish to supply quantitative data about a journal(s) then it is not necessary to wait to receive an invitation to do so.

A new format of ERIH lists is now being published
