The laboratory of Behavioral Genetics, within the Brain and Mind Institute-School of Life Science at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)/CH is organizing an international symposium, Understanding Violence – Recent advances in biology, sociology and modeling - EPFL Latsis Symposium 2009 which will take place on February 11-12th & 13th, 2009 on the EPFL campus.  (see more information in the webpage http://latsis2009.epfl.ch/).

The Kiel Summer School (KiSS) is a center for learning in an international context, offering a variety of courses in economics, business administration, quantitative methods, social sciences, and the German language. The seven-week program also includes a series of field trips and visits to business companies. No prior German language training is required. After the seven-week program, internships with institutions and business can be arranged. For more information, please go to website.

Other Calls

COST invites researchers throughout Europe to submit proposals for research networks, including the domain of Individuals, Society, Culture and Health. Since 1971 COST brings together research teams in different countries working on specific topics. It finances networking of nationally funded activities in supporting meetings, conferences, short term scientific exchanges and outreach activities. The Board of Governors of RC24 has just created the Frederick H. Buttel International Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Environmental Sociology in honour of its past president.  The ISA has approved the award and specified a list of rules for granting the award. Go to the ISA website.

Journals, Newsletters, Publications

The Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research (FAS) publishes a newsletter, which contains information about activities, publications and FAS-funded research.  All newsletters published to date can be consulted here, where you can also subscribe.

The African Journal of Political Science and International Relations (AJPSIR) is currently accepting manuscripts for publication. AJPSIR publishes rigorous theoretical reasoning and advanced empirical research in all areas of the subjects. We welcome articles or proposals from all perspectives and on all subjects pertaining to Africa, Africa's relationship to the world, public policy, international relations, comparative politics, political methodology, political theory, political history and culture, global political economy, strategy and environment. CATCH, demonstration project in the European Commission’s Life-Environment Programme, has now published its final report. It supported the EC’s Sixth Environmental Action Programme by promoting sustainable mobility in order to improve air quality.
