SCIENCE STAFF


Dr. Balázs Kiss

Dr. Balázs Kiss is the Head of the Social Sciences Unit; he has a PhD in economics but has also taught philosophy, made research on sociology and published books and articles on political science, mainly in the area of political communication.  He worked at the Institute of Political Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and, for years, he chaired the political science review panel of Hungarian Scientific Research Fund. 

Balázs is specifically responsible for matters relating to the Standing Committee for the Social Sciences (SCSS), and all other activities of a strategic and science policy nature.

Dr. Frank Kuhn

Dr. Frank Kuhn acts as a Science Officer for the Unit. He trained as a political scientist with special focus on political participation, public opinion and mass media research. After having consulted in the regional development and ICT sector, Frank worked on his PhD that addressed electronic democracy at the local level.

His activities in the unit include ESF Research Networking Programmes, ESF conferences, the supervision of the EUROCORES Programmes in the Social Sciences, as well as Forward Looks. In these strategic and science policy activities he closely collaborates with the Head of Unit.

Ms. Sarah Moore

Ms. Sarah Moore has worked at the European Commission’s Centre for Research on Lifelong Learning (CRELL) at the Joint Research Centre in Italy and for the Irish Research Council for Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS).

Sarah has a Master in Education Studies from Trinity College Dublin and is currently working as Junior Science Officer in the Social Sciences at the ESF, dealing in particular with the EUROCORES programmes on Higher Education and Social Change (EuroHESC) and Human Values, Institutions and Behaviour (HumVIB).

Ms. Julia Boman

Ms. Julia Boman holds an M.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Tartu (Estonia), and is pursuing her PhD studies at the Robert Schuman University (France). 

Currently, she is working as a Junior Science Officer for the Humanities and Social Sciences Units. In the latter, she deals especially with communication issues.

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF


Ms. Rhona Heywood

After graduating from Oxford, UK, with an MA in Modern Languages, Ms. Rhona Heywood worked for a few years in the Research Conferences Unit before joining the social sciences team, where she is now Senior Administrator and Unit Coordinator.

Rhona is primarily responsible for matters relating to the Standing Committee for the Social Sciences (SCSS), the EUROCORES Theme Call, Forward Looks and other strategic activities.

Ms. Caroline Eckert

Ms. Caroline Eckert has a degree in translation from Strasbourg's Marc Bloch University, where she studied English and Spanish. She is a French native speaker and has been working for ESF since 1999.  

Caroline is a Senior Administrator in the Social Sciences Unit and deals mostly with Research Networking Programmes (RNPs) and the social sciences EUROCORES ECRP. She is particularly interested in psychology and language acquisition.

Mrs. Céline Quedrue

Mrs. Céline Quedrue started working at the ESF as a receptionist in December 2000. She has subsequently held several administrative positions, and joined the Social Sciences Unit in September 2006 as Administrator.

Céline is responsible for the daily administration of the EUROCORES programme HumVIB, of the European Social Survey, of the reviewing process of Exploratory Workshops and of the Member Organisation Forum in Central and Eastern European Countries (MOCEE).

Ms. Päivi McIntosh

Ms. Päivi McIntosh has a Masters degrees in English and Information Science. She first joined ESF in 2005, working in the Humanities Unit on the Reference Index project.  

Since  April 2008, Päivi has worked part-time on EUROCORES programmes for the Social Sciences and the Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences units.  She is Administrator for EuroHESC - Higher Education and Social Change.
