Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee (NuPECC)
Aim & Tasks
The aim of NuPECC is to promote collaborative ventures between nuclear physicists within Europe and particularly between those from countries linked to the ESF.
The tasks of this ESF Expert Committee are to:
- strengthen European collaboration in nuclear physics;
- define a network of complementary facilities within Europe and encourage optimisation of their usage;
- provide a forum for the discussion of the provision of future facilities and instrumentation;
- issue recommendations on the development, organisation, and support of European nuclear physics, and of particular projects.

Publications
Through its quarterly magazine, Nuclear Physics News International, NuPECC provides an important forum for discussing nuclear physics.
In 2007 NuPECC published a report on "High Instensity Stable Ion Beams in Europe - ECOS" and a 2006 Survey of Resources in Nuclear Physics Research in NuPECC Member Countries.
In 2005 NuPECC published a Roadmap for Construction of Nuclear Physics Research Infrastructures in Europe.
In 2004 two major documents were published:
- the fifth edition of the NuPECC Handbook entitled 'International Access to Nuclear Physics Facilities in Europe';
- NuPECC Long Range Plan 2004: Perspectives for Nuclear Physics Research in Europe in the Coming Decade and Beyond (PDF 6.7 MB). For a hardcopy send an Email to Dr. Gabriele-Elisabeth Körner.
For an electronic copy of Nuclear Science in Europe: Impact, Applications, Interactions (2002), click here.
NuPECC published Nuclear Physics in Europe: Highlights and Opportunities in December 1997. This report follows on from Nuclear Physics in Europe: Opportunities & Perspectives (November 1991). It contains a review of the field of nuclear physics in Europe, recommendations for future developments, and a chapter which describes the present and future possibilities of the corresponding research facilities in Europe. This is the first attempt to define a network of facilities within Europe that include local and national facilities as well as European laboratories which are complementary and guarantee international access.
For more information on any of the above publications please visit the NuPPECC website or send an Email to Dr. Gabriele-Elisabeth Körner.
