The 2nd European Survey of Research Infrastructure and the European RIs Web portal

The main corporate Research Infrastructure activity during 2006 and into 2007 was the EC – ESF - EUROHORCs collaboration on the 2nd European Survey of current research infrastructures at the European level of scale and excellence.

ESF’s involvement stemed from its foreseen role in the intended EuroHORCs inventory of national medium-sized infrastructures, which EuroHORCs decided to combine with the EC’s Survey to reduce overlap. Because it focused on current operational infrastructures, the Survey was complementary to the ESFRI roadmap exercise. The Survey proceeded via an online questionnaire, the results of which were scientifically validated against the Survey’s criteria by ESF Standing Committees and via an additional data gathering exercise by the EC and the Standing Committees to identify important RI which had not been captured by the questionnaire.

The results of the Survey were published in a report. A long term objective identified by the Survey was the potential for an “RI Portal” which will provide both RI users and policy makers with access to current data on all European-level RI, and which will also remove the need for future questionnaire based surveys.  To access this Portal which has now been activated, click here.
