Science Policy Activities
As the only organisation in Europe that brings together nearly all major research organisations, extending well beyond the current EU Membership, ESF is uniquely positioned to play a crucial and distinctive role towards the realization of a coherent European Research Area.
ESF provides a unique platform for its member organisations to discuss issues of common concern and jointly develop strategies.
The science policy activities include initiatives aimed at creating an environment which is conducive to high level research in Europe and developing authoritative visions on scientific fields, research areas and needed research infrastructures for ESF Member Organisations and other stakeholders in Europe.
ESF carries its mission through ESF Forward Looks, Member Organisation Fora, Research Infrastructure Reviews, specific activities of ESF Standing Committees, Expert Boards and dedicated corporate science policy initiatives.
Key science policy publications of ESF are Science Policy Briefings and Science Position Papers of ESF Standing Committees and Expert Boards which, after a rigorous quality control (including external peer review) are published under the responsibility of the ESF Chief Executive and Standing Committees or Expert Boards respectively.
