Sharing Research Data

The European Science Foundation and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) have organised a Workshop on sharing research data on Friday 21 September 2007 in Padua, Italy.

The DFG-ESF Workshop „Shared Responsibilities in Sharing Research Data“ aimed to raise the awareness on open access to research data and provided a forum to discuss potential areas of cooperation on this issue.

The objectives of the workshop were:

  • to get research organizations in Europe acquainted with on-going and planned initiatives   for open access to research data
  • to present and discuss policies and practices on open access to research data of selected organisations
  • to identify areas in which research organisations could collaborate on this issue

The one day workshop has included presentations from a wide range of perspectives: scientific community, international organisations, research data infrastructures, publishers as well as European and American research organisations.

The Workshop was organised within the framework of the 5th follow-up Conference of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access that was held on 19 – 21 September 2007. The 2007 conference was organised by the Max Planck Society and the Association of the Rectors of Italian Universities and has been kindly hosted by the University of Padua.
