Short Visit Grants - Call for Applications for 2008

ConGen is offering funding for a number of Short Visit Grants to take place in 2008 (up to 15 days) related to the scientific objectives of the Programme.
Eligibility
a) Undertake work applicable to ConGen
b) Apply to stay in a European country other than the country of origin
c) Return to the institute of origin upon termination, so that the applicant’s institute may also benefit from the broadened knowledge of the scientist
d) Acknowledge ESF in publications resulting from the grantee’s work tin relation to the Short Visit or Exchange Grant
Please note that the Steering Committee will fund only sufficient high-quality applications. Junior applicants with little experience in writing a proposal are therefore strongly recommended to ask advice from their senior local and/or host supervisor on these matters. In addition, it is of the utmost importance that the application describes how the proposed project fits into and will promote the objectives of ConGen.
Priority will be given to applicants who come from or intend to visit countries that financially support the programme (Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Turkey).
Application Procedure

Short Visit Grant applications must include the following information:
- A short description of the proposed project work (about 250 words) and the aim of the visit
- A curriculum vitae of a maximum of two A4 pages
- Full address details of the prospective host(s)
- Proposed starting date
- Estimated travel costs

Allowance
Short Visit Grants are reimbursed on a per diem basis of 85 EUR plus actual travel expenses up to a maximum of 500 EUR. Travel will be refunded on the basis of actual costs and on the basis of APEX type airfares or 2nd class train travel for shorter distances. The grants do not cover health insurance, taxes, or retirement scheme contributions.
Grantees will be expected to provide a written report at the end of their visit. Payment of the grant, including the reimbursement of travel costs, will be made after the short visit, subject to receipt of the scientific report, original travel tickets and signed host statement form(s), one month after the visit.
[OPEN] There is no fixed deadline for the submission of applications. Funding decisions are taken by the ConGen Steering Committee every two months. When submitting applications please ensure that there is at least 3 months between the date of submission and the proposed starting date of the visit, to ensure that the Committee have sufficient time to evaluate the application.

Exchange Grants - Call for Applications [OPEN]
ConGen offers funding for a number of Exchange Grants of up to one month duration and a support of maximum 1500 EUR per grant.
These grants are especially directed to young scientists that aim at visiting labs that have new/recent "omics" and other molecular techniques in operation and volunteer to teach the applicants these techniques. Moreover, applications from countries/laboratories where the use of these techniques has no long tradition are particularly supported.

b) Aplly to stay in a European country other than the country of origin
c) Return to the institute of origin upon termination, so that the applicant's institute may also benefit from the broadened knowledge of the scientist
d) Acknowledge ESF in publications resulting from the grantee's work in relation to the Exchange Grant

- A curriculum vitae of two A4 pages
- Five most recent publications
- A letter of recommendation from someone familiar with the applicant's work
- A letter of acceptance fro mthe host at the receiving institute
- Full address details of the prospective host(s)
- Proposed starting date
- Estimated travel costs

Allowance
Exchange Grants are reimbursed on the basis of an allowance of 400 EUR per week plus actual travel expenses up to a maximum of 500 EUR. Travel will be refunded on the basis of actual costs and on the basis of APEX typoe airfares or 2nd class train travel for shorter distances. The grants do not cover health insurance, taxes, or retirement scheme contributions.
Grantees will be expected to provide a written report at the end of their visit. 80% of the subsistence allowance will be payable two months in advance. The final payment, including the reimbursement of travel costs, will be made after the visit, subject to receipt of the scientific report, original travel tickets and signed host statement form(s), one month after the visit.
Deadline
The deadline for the submission of applications is 15 July 2008.
When submitting applications please ensure that there is at least 3 months between the date of submission and the proposed starting date of the visit, to ensure that the Steering Committee has sufficient time to evaluate the application. For further information, please contact:
