ESF NETWORK on Isotope analysis by accelerator mass spectrometry in support of earth and environmental sciences (IAAMS)
Summary
This networking activity pursues to build a network of excellence in the isotope measurement sphere as the environmental science and management communities now require larger numbers of higher precision measurement, of an increasing number of isotopes, on shorter time scales. Integration at the European level is necessary since individual areas of expertise exist in a fragmented fashion at national level.
The aim of the Network is to establish a critical mass of accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) facilities and their ‘feeder’ laboratories within Europe, in order to facilitate the use and availability of isotope measurements by AMS for diagnostic purposes in environmental studies in many disciplines and fields (climate change research, paleoclimatology, volcanology, surface exposure, tectonics and geomorphological studies).
The themes of the Network include: AMS sample preparation, AMS Instrumentation, AMS Calibration (and harmonisation of measurements), AMS Application Areas.
Duration
3 years, from January 2004 to December 2006.
