Abstract

The Forward Look RNA World aims to integrate several RNA research areas, not only within eukaryotic but also prokaryotic RNA research.

This project serves as an umbrella of EC projects including RIGHT, SIROCCO, FOSRAK, the ESF EUROCORES theme proposal RNA Quality, and the ESF Research Networking Programme Frontiers for Functional Genomics by addressing future developments in sub-fields of the RNA World ranging from basic science on RNA quality, bacterial sRNAs and eukaryotic microRNAs, to the pathology of pre-mRNA splicing and the potential of RNA interference for the treatment of a variety of diseases including cancer and infectious diseases.

The integrative aspect of this FL activity is much needed in a research field consisting of highly specialized domains and is expected to generate awareness of the progress in RNA research and to foster European research programs in member countries.
