Call for Proposals

Second call for proposals in the field of Self-Organised NanoStructures (SONS)

Following agreement with funding bodies from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom,* the European Science Foundation is launching the second Call for Outline Proposals for collaborative research projects to be undertaken within the EUROCORES programme SONS. The programme includes national research funding and a European networking component.

Proposals are sought for collaborative research projects (CRPs). Call for Outline Proposals    DEADLINE: 23 June 2005

* Potential applicants should contact the participating national funding bodies to consult on their elegibility and any other particular rules for participation (see section on eligibility)

Assessment Criteria for Outline and Full Proposals

The application will include two steps, submission of outline and full proposals.

At both stages the Collaborative Research Project as a whole, not the individual components, will be assessed.

Assessment criteria for Outline Proposals

1. Suitability for the Call for Proposals
2. Originality and novelty of the proposal
3. Level of international and multidisciplinary collaboration (incl. “European added value”)
4. Feasibility
5. Qualification of the applicants.

Assessment criteria for Full Proposals

At the Full Proposal stage, the assessment will focus on the scientific quality of the research plan for a Collaborative Research Project.

1. Scientific quality of the CRP and IP proposals
2. Level of multidisciplinary integration within the CRP
3. Qualification of the applicants (suitability for this CRP; international standing)
4. Level of collaboration envisaged between the IPs in this CRP
5. Feasibility, incl. suitability of the methods selected
6. Overlap with existing projects (or projects applied for)
7. Suitability of budget items (“value for money”)

At the Full Proposal stage, however, referees and Review Panel may be asked to identify the weaker and not-essential components (IPs) of the proposal.
