• The European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly will be held in Vienna, AT, from 13 to 18 April 2008.
  A EUROMARGINS session entitled "Seafloor expression of tectonic and geomorphic processes" is organised.

• Workshop “Synthesis of EUROMARGINS projects in the North Atlantic”, GFZ Potsdam, DE, 19-20 February 2007
  Results from three EUROMARGINS projects investing the North Atlantic conjugated margins call for final integration. Deep seismic imaging (“Crustal architecture and evolution of the conjugate volcanic margins off mid-Norway and East Greenland in a total rift context”, FP01) and 3D structural modelling (“Lithospheric memory and tectonic (re)activation of volcanic rifted margins and their borderlands: quantitative modelling of North-western European Margin System Dynamics”, FP16) reveal strong structural heterogeneity across the margin and a high-velocity / high-densities body  continuous with the lowermost oceanic crust. This indicates that breakup was preceded by crustal underplating and crustal melting (“The role of mantle-crust interaction in the early phases of passive margin development: the case of the Vøring Plateau, NE Atlantic”, FP13). Structural restorations at the Norwegian Margin suggest a very small brittle, upper crustal component of extension and a ductile, lower crustal component. Quaternary vertical movements in the SW Barents Sea provoke a thermal disequilibrium in the subsurface and invoke strong pressure variations in the petroleum systems.

• Workshop “MEDIATIC-2. The Mediterranean-Atlantic transition region”, Institute of Marine Sciences (CSIC), Barcelona, ES, 14-16 February 2007.
  A second edition of the MEDIATIC Workshop was proposed on 14th-16th February 2007 at the Marine Science Institute of Barcelona. The meeting was especially addressed to all the PIs pertaining to the Individual Projects of the EUROMARGINS Projects WESTMED, MVSEIS, and SWIM. The Workshop focussed on:
  a) joint assessment of the development of the three CRP’s and to establish general concluding remarks on the corresponding scientific topics;
  b) explore from individual projects, future collaborations and joint actions; and
  c) To explore the possibility to participate in one or more future Collaborative Research Projects within the framework of the new TOPO-EUROPE EUROCORES programme and or other ongoing initiatives in the region.

• Science Summer School on "Controls in marine ecosystems"
  The summer school "Towards ecosystem oceanography: Identification and modelling of controls in marine ecosystems" took place in Dragerup, Denmark, 18-28 June 2006. It was co-organised by the Ecosystem Approach to Marine Resources (WP6) group within the EUR-OCEANS Network of Excellence, and SLIP/Fishnet. It is endorsed and sponsored by GLOBEC.
