EuroBioForum was a key part of EuroBioFund, providing a networking event for professionals from science, industry, government, foundations and finance to engage with researchers to identify future grand challenges in the life sciences which require a coordinated approach for their financing and implementation. The first EuroBioForum was held in Helsinki, Finland on 14-15 December 2006, followed by Lisbon, Portugal on 5-7 December and the final EuroBioForum was in Strasbourg, France on 17-19 September 2008.
EuroBioForum
Provided a forum for life science research consortia to promote their ideas for pan-European large-scale research programmes to funding organisations.
Created the conditions for networking and decision-making that could ultimately lead to trans-national funding of such programmes from multiple sources.
Brought together funding organisations to discuss synergies and address future life science challenges in a coordinated manner.
EuroBioForum was an annual forum where researchers, funding organisations and other stakeholders across Europe met to discuss future life sciences priorities. Identification of these life science topics was based on ideas put forward by the life sciences community and by public and private funding organisations across Europe via a Call for Expressions of Interest. Following a selection by the international Steering Committee, the EuroBioFund team then helped to define the programme for each workshop in close collaboration with the proposers of the selected topic. The objectives of the workshop were a combination of the following: to outline the plan for a new research programme; to define a common strategic research agenda; to update current funders and sponsors and inform potential new ones.
The workshops were organised in the frame of EuroBioForum and the final EuroBioForum was in Strasbourg, France on the 17-19 September 2008 in association with the French Presidency of the European Union.
