Final Programme & List of Accepted Participants
Adverse drug reactions are a major problem for healthcare services, the pharmaceutical industry and regulators. This has been highlighted recently with some high-profile drug withdrawals and regulatory decisions. There is an urgent need to develop strategies to reduce the burden of adverse drug reaction – this needs to apply to both drug development (to reduce the rate of attrition) and during clinical use (to reduce patient morbidity, mortality, costs to healthcare, and drug withdrawals). Although there are many factors involved in the causation of adverse drug reactions, and hence in the processes that will be needed to improve drug safety, pharmacogenomics is an important technology that could provide major benefits. The promise of pharmacogenomics in preventing adverse drug reactions has already been witnessed through studies on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and haemolysis associated with antimalarials, TPMT testing and 6-mercaptopurine toxicity and HLA-B*5701 genotyping and abacavir hypersensitivity. The ESF-UB Conference on Pharmacogenomics will concentrate on adverse drug reactions this year, providing an interactive forum for both senior and junior researchers to learn about the latest developments in safety pharmacogenomics.

Abstracts, Posters & Short Oral Contributions
There will be no short talks other than those listed on the programme. All abstracts have been accepted as posters.
The list of posters by session is now available
Poster Session 1 PDF (97 KB), Poster Session 2 PDF (97 KB)
Posters can be fixed with blue tack or tape onto poster panels. Poster size should be no more than 130 cm high x 130 cm wide. Use letters and drawings that can be read from approximately 100 cm distance.

GROUP TRANSPORTATION
Three buses will be arranged on arrival day from Barcelona airport to Sant Feliu. The journey takes approximately 2 hours, depending on traffic.
Bus departure times – Friday 27 June: 15.30 and 17.00 and 18.30
Airport departure point: the buses will wait in the special bus parking area located just before the A terminal. Each bus has been requested to be at the meeting point 20-30 minutes before scheduled departure. The coaches will have a sign in the window indicating “ESF Research Conferences” for easy recognition.
Group transportation back to Barcelona airport will be arranged in a similar way for the departure day.
Bus departure times – Wednesday 2 July: tentative times at this stage 12.30 and 13.30
ACCOMMODATION
Please note that SINGLE accommodation can only be guaranteed to invited speakers. All other participants will have to share a TWIN room. In case single rooms would become available at the time of the conference, rooms will be attributed on a “first come, first served” basis. Only the TWIN conference fee should be paid to the ESF when registering. The supplement for single should be paid to the venue directly. Should you wish to be put on waiting list for single accommodation, please contact Ms Chiara Orefice.

- ESF STUDY HELPS STOP DRUGS SLIPPING THROUGH SAFETY NET Recent advances in genetic screening will lead to safer pharmaceutical drugs, with reduced adverse side effects, if the methods are incorporated in clinical development. A rallying call to bring key scientists into this growing field of pharmacogenics, the application of genetics to drug development and safety, was made recently at a major conference organized by the European Science Foundation (ESF) in collaboration with the University of Barcelona.
