EURYI Award 2004 - Press meeting

The EURYI awards will present 25 young and outstanding scientists who will be awarded up to 1.250.000 € each to create their own research team in Europe. The European Young Investigator awards (EURYI) are offered by 18 European research organisations from 15 countries in an open competition with no “juste retour”. The awards will enable young researchers to gain independence and develop their own research group with a grant comparable in size to the Nobel Prize. The awards will last for a 5 year period, subject to satisfactory progress.

– Reception –

The EURYI awards scheme was developed by the European Union Research Organisations Heads of Research Councils, together with the European Science Foundation to attract outstanding young researchers from anywhere in the world to work in Europe for the benefit of the development of European science and the building up of the next generation of leading European researchers. The first EURYI call for proposals was launched on the 15th of September 2003. A total of 777 applications were considered.

The 15 countries participating to the scheme are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

The award ceremony will take place the 26th of August during the EuroScience Open Forum in Stockholm.

It is advisable to pre-register for the press conference, as there may be limited space.
