The European Science Foundation (ESF) is consulting the scientific community at large on the working of its instruments. The consultation is part of the preparation of the ESF Strategic Plan 2006-2010, due to be published in November 2005.
European scientists are invited to share their experiences with and views on the various ESF instruments through a survey, recently released by ESF.
As a platform for its member organisations throughout Europe, ESF seeks to serve the scientific community. ESF and its member organisations recognise that the right strategic focus of ESF’s instruments is essential to enable successful assistance to scientists throughout Europe.
“An essential element of ESF’s mission is to serve the scientific community at large, through close cooperation with our member organisations,” said John Marks, ESF Director of Science and Strategy. “Our goal is to promote leading edge science in Europe in areas which require cooperation across national borders and across disciplines. We want to do this by addressing those issues that the science community considers important.”
To set the direction for the coming five years, ESF wants to assess whether its instruments effectively target the needs of European scientists. ESF also endeavours to identify new needs that could emerge as a result of current science and technology developments.
As ESF anticipates finalising its Strategic plan in the autumn of 2005, ESF would like to receive responses before the end of August 2005.
