Fiona Kernan, Scientific Officer working on EuroBioFund explains her role and how she came to be at the ESF.
Following a career in science management allows me to maintain contact with research scientists and keep up to date with scientific developments in the life sciences field. Science has always been a passion of mine but following completion of my Ph.D. in Trinity College Dublin on human genetic therapy, I decided that I wanted to explore science management. After completing a traineeship at the European Commission, the job opening at ESF provided a great opportunity and I have no regrets about leaving the laboratory behind.
Working at ESF is also very enjoyable given the chance to contribute to the development of scientific agendas at a European level, working with colleagues from a wide variety of countries and educational backgrounds, and of course the chance to live and work in the city of Strasbourg.
