Role of organisation
The ESRC's mission is to increase understanding of social and economic change in order to enhance the UK's economic competitiveness, the effectiveness of its public services and policy and the quality of life in all citizens. ESRC pursues this mission by supporting high-quality research and training in areas as diverse as economics, psychology, environment and education. ESRC places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of the users of ESRC research. The Council has a budget of around £65 million. It does not employ researchers directly but funds them through institutions all over the UK.
