Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils |
||
Role of organisation |
The Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils (CCLRC) is the UK's strategic agency for the provision of access to large-scale scientific facilities, in particular neutron, muon and photon sources. It is responsible for ensuring that UK researchers have access to the facilities that they require. CCLRC provides these directly at its sites - the CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the CCLRC Daresbury Laboratory and the CCLRC Chilbolton Facility - and by arranging access to world-class neutron and photon research facilities all over the world. On-site facilities include the world-leading pulsed neutron and muon source, ISIS, the world-class Central Laser Facility and the UK Synchrotron Radiation X-ray source. The infrastructure for these facilities also supports other areas, including space science, remote sensing and high performance computing. CCLRC's international activities include responsibility for the UK participation in the European neutron (ILL) and synchrotron (ESRF) facilities at Grenoble and co-ordination of UK activities at CERN. | |
