CERN is the world's largest scientific
research centre. Over 8000 scientists, engineers and computer specialists from 80 nations
collaborate to research into the fundamental building blocks of matter and the forces
which hold them together. CERN is funded by 20 European members states and the 2000 budget
is SF 931 million. A famous spin off from CERN research was the invention of the World
