Towards a Globally Competitive ERA

A Joint conference of the ESF Member Organisation Fora

Strasbourg, 17 November 2010

An ESF Member Organisation Forum is an output-oriented, issue-related venue for the Member Organisations, involving other organisations as appropriate, to exchange information and experiences and develop joint actions in science policy.

MO Fora advance excellence in research at the European level creating synergies with complementary actions jointly with academies, and research funding and performing organisations. MO Fora channel the implementation of those joint actions by identifying best practices, developing common guidelines and making policy recommendations.

The “EUROHORCs and ESF Vision on a Globally competitive ERA” defines the crucial elements of a successful European research environment. The Vision has been broken down into ten actions, which are mandated to individual EUROHORCs organisations and the ESF. The eight currently running Member Organisation Fora address most of these action points, thus supporting the development of common views on how to realise a successful ERA.

The aim of the 2010 Science Policy Conference is, for the first time, to bring together all Fora to explore cross-cutting issues, interphases and complementarities. Alignment between the individual Fora and aggregation of their outputs would further the progress of ERA, and could be used to influence the content of Framework Programme 8.
