Large-Scale And Long-Term Functional Biodiversity Research In Europe

ESF Exploratory Workshop - LESC

Convened by: Markus Fischer (DE), Elisabeth Kalko (DE), Karl Eduard Linsenmair (DE), Simone Pfeiffer (DE), Ernst-Detlef Schulze (DE), Wolfgang Weisser Weisser (DE)

Location: 2-4 June 2008, Potsdam, Germany

Keywords

Biodiversity; ecological experiments; ecosystem functioning and services; land use; promoting European functional biodiversity research

Summary

With biodiversity and ecosystem researchers from all over Europe we will discuss a concrete research agenda on functional consequences of biodiversity change for ecosystem processes and services in real landscapes. Previously, this high-priority topic has almost exclusively been dealt with in model experiments using microbial, algal, or grassland communities. Reports from our German-Science-Foundation funded biodiversity exploratories and from other countries will stimulate discussions aiming at a strong common European research proposal.
