Workshops Detail

Cryopreservation Of Ovarian Tissue In Cancer Patients, Farm Animals And Endangered Species

ESF Exploratory Workshop - LESC - EMRC

Convened by: Michael Von Wolff (DE), Claus Yding Andersen (DK)

Location: 15-17 May 2008, Heidelberg, Germany

Keywords

Cryopreservation; ovary; cancer; chemotherapy; endangered species

Summary

Fertility preservation in women and cancer patients and preservation of gametes of farm animals or endangered wildlife species are topics of increasing scientific and public interest. Both topics involve cryopreservation of ovarian tissue, followed by tissue re- or xenotransplantation or/and by production of mature oocytes in vitro. As these techniques are highly complex, their efficacy is still very limited. Substantial progress in this field will depend on the successful and not yet performed integration of the different involved researchers from all areas of human reproductive medicine, veterinary medicine and biology.
