Multivariate Interpolation - Its Relation To Algebraic Statistics, Classical Algebraic Geometry And Computational Complexity Theory

ESF Exploratory Workshop - PESC

Convened by: Kristian Ranestad (NO), Anthony Geramita (IT)

Location: 16-19 October 2007, Sestri Levante, Italy

Keywords

Multivariate Interpolation, Secant Varieties, Computational Complexity, Algebraic Statistics, Computational Algebra

Summary

The problem of multivariate interpolation is, roughly speaking, the following: in a space of high dimension can you find equations which describe hypersurfaces satisfying certain conditions at certain fixed points? If so, how many? Questions of this type are considered in areas as diverse as automobile design and medical economics.
