Membrane Architecture and Dynamics (EuroMEMBRANE)

**CALL for Outline Proposals NOW OPEN**

The DEADLINE for online submission of EuroMEMBRANE Outline Proposals is THURSDAY 22 MAY 2008, 12:00 PM (noon)

see below

Summary

The aim of the EUROCORES programme on EuroMEMBRANE is to answer long-standing questions in membrane biology using cutting-edge technologies. These will address functional problems in a quantitative manner bringing together experimental tools with theoretical approaches. There will be a special emphasis on lipid-lipid and (glyco)lipid-protein interactions in the plane of the membrane in health and disease. Using various model organisms would allow cross-species comparison and bring an evolutionary perspective to biomembrane studies. This type of research requires a strong interdisciplinary collaboration that covers  biological, chemical, physical and computational aspects of membranology over a broad dynamic range of time and length.

The Programme aims at delivering:

  • New experimental and computational methods and standards for biological membrane research.

  • New biological knowledge on membrane architecture and dynamics that would contribute to a better understanding of membrane functions in the normal and pathologic state.

    NEWS: FNRS (Belgium) joins EuroMEMBRANE!

Funding initiatives in the field of Membrane Architecture and Dynamics (EuroMEMBRANE)

Following agreement with funding organisations in Austria, Belgium (FNRS), Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey, the European Science Foundation is launching a Call for Outline Proposals for Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) to be undertaken within the EUROCORES Programme EuroMEMBRANE. EuroMEMBRANE will run for 3-4 years and it includes national research funding, as well as support for networking and dissemination activities provided by the ESF. The Programme aims to support high quality multidisciplinary research.

Deadline for submission of Outline Proposal: 22 May 2008, 12:00 CET

Eligibility

Proposals from individual researchers and research groups eligible for funding by the participating EFAs will be accepted for consideration in the EUROCORES Programme EuroMEMBRANE.

Applicants should contact their national funding agencies (see list of Contact Persons) in order to verify eligibility and ensure compliance with the relevant agency's granting rules and regulations.

For supplementary information on Funding Agency special national requirements, please click here.

Proposals are only eligible if they fulfil the following criteria:

  • Proposals must involve, as a minimum, 3 eligible Principal Investigators (PIs) from 3 different countries.
  • A maximum of 50% of the Individual Projects (IPs) in a Collaborative Research Project (CRP) can come from one country.
  • Proposals must involve more PIs than Associated Partners

Application Procedures - Outline Proposals

Click here to enter the submission page; you will need to complete five steps:

     ·         Step 1: Outline proposal details (title, start date, duration, total budget etc.)

·         Step 2: Personal data of Project Leader

·         Step 3: Personal data of Principal Investigators and Associated Partner(s)

·         Step 4: Upload file with CRP details (download proposal template)

·         Step 5: Submission

Should you experience any difficulties, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions or contact the ESF office.

Submission deadline is 22 MAY 2008, at 12:00 CET.

Please note the following:

The document uploaded must be in pdf, doc or rtf format and be of less than 4 MB in size.

After 55 min. of inactivity the session will be interrupted automatically.

Having filled in outline details of the proposal and the Project Leader, an automatic email is generated which will provide a password. This password will allow applicants to recover, modify and add to any data entered.

Only once the "End" button is pressed, after the uploading of the document, is the proposal considered as submitted. No modifications can be made thereafter.

It is currently not possible to print the full online application. You can, for your personal record, print a screen-shot, and you will receive, after complete submission of the proposal, a confirmation email with the information submitted and an access code for future reference.

Application Procedures - Full Proposals

Successful applicants will be invited to submit Full Proposals by 4 July 2008.

Deadline for submitting Full Proposals: Thursday 4 SEPTEMBER 2008, 12:00 CET (noon).

Programme Structure and Management

The programme will be overseen by a Management Committee formed by one representative of each of the participating funding organisations and the EUROCORES Programme Coordinator in the Cognitive Sciences.

An independent international Review Panel formed of leading experts in the field, with a mandate from the funding agencies, will oversee the scientific aspects of the programme.

ESF will support networking activities expected to facilitate communication between the different projects, leading to an effective exchange of information and dissemination of results.  To this aim, scientific workshops, conferences, symposia and training courses will be organised during the programme’s lifetime.  Web-based resources may also be developed to support the exchange of technical and scientific information and expertise, and to promote effective collaborations with other European researchers working in the field.

Networking and coordination of the EUROCORES Programmes are currently funded through the European Commission Sixth Framework Programme, under contract n° ERAS-CT-2003-980409
