NEWS:

US National Science Foundation (NSF) joins EUROHESC

US researchers are now able to apply for collaborative projects with their European colleagues

US scientists interested in working in an international collaborative research project on "Higher Education and Social Change" are now asked to contact their European colleagues to prepare an application. Likewise European researchers who were intending to include US collaborators can now do so.

The deadline for submission of outline proposal is THURSDAY, 15 MAY 2008, 12:00 PM (noon).

EUROCORES funding comes from national funding organisations, hence national requirements may apply and this may result in additional material to be provided along with the joint application to ESF. US researchers are therefore kindly invited to contact Dr. Diane Spresser, Office of the Assistant Director, Directorate for Education and Human Resources, NSF, 703-292-5118,  (dspresser[at]nsf.gov) at EHR to find out more.

All details regarding the joint application to ESF (including call, submission form, guidelines, FAQ and glossary) can be found on this webpage. Please study this material carefully!

In case of further questions, please contact Dr. Frank Kuhn (fkuhn[at]esf.org) at ESF.

Following agreement with funding organisations in Austria, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK, the European Science Foundation is launching a Call for Outline Proposals for Collaborative Research Projects (CRPs) to be undertaken within the EUROCORES Programme EuroHESC: Higher Education and Social Change.

The main purpose of EuroHESC is to develop and implement a programme of interdisciplinary comparative research into the relationship between higher education and society. This will include the development of theories and hypotheses about this relationship and the factors which influence it, as well as addressing methodological issues of comparative research in this field (e.g. data comparability, combination of quantitative and qualitative research, and different levels of analysis).

Moreover EuroHESC is going to explore ways of utilising other social science datasets – for example, the European Social Survey and Eurostudent – in order to set higher education research more firmly within the different social and cultural settings in which it occurs. Finally EuroHESC is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of research capacity in the field of higher education research and to an improved integration between the field and related scientific fields.

This programme aims to support high quality multidisciplinary research and is expected to run for 3-4 years; it includes national research funding as well as support for networking and dissemination activities managed by the ESF.

The DEADLINE for online submission of EuroHESC Outline Proposals is THURSDAY, 15 MAY 2008, 12:00 PM (noon).

It is expected that Full Proposals will be invited by Thursday, by 19 June 2008 with an expected deadline for submission of Tuesday, 16 September 2008, 12:00 pm (noon).
