Please note that there will not be any Calls for Outline Proposals in 2011.Since the level of financial commitments expressed by the ESF Member Organisations did not reach the required viability threshold for the five themes selected in 2010 for launch in 2011, namely EuroCompMath, EuroTROP, EuroACSIS, EuroLGBT and OMEGA, the development of the five themes is discontinued. The resulting calls for outline proposals will therefore not be launched. Moreover, Please note that there will not be a Call for EUROCORES Themes in 2011.This decision was taken in the context of the current discussions between ESF and EUROHORCS (European Heads of Research Councils) about the ways in which their relationship could be better developed to serve European science: http://www.esf.org/about-us/latest-developments-between-esf-eurohorcs.html.

The ESF received 49 proposals in response to the 2010 EUROCORES Call for Themes by the deadline of 21 May 2010.

From the open Call for themes 2009, seven EUROCORES themes were selected to be further developed into EUROCORES Programmes. Upon recommendation of the ESF Science Advisory Board, calls for the following seven EUROCORES programmes have been published in January 2010: EuroTRACES: European Trans-Atlantic Coral Ecosystem Study EuroBioSAS: Bio-inspired Engineering of Sensors, Actuators & Systems EuroEPINOMICS: Functional genomic variation in the epilepsies EuroGIGA: Graphs in Geometry and Algorithms EuroSolarFuels: Molecular Science for a Conceptual Transition from Fossil to Solar Fuels EuroUnderstanding: Understanding and Misunderstanding: Cognition, Communication and Culture EuroVOL: Ecology of Plant Volatiles, from Molecules to the Globe For information, the list of reviewers used for the assessment of collaborative research projects submitted in response to the calls can be found here |
The EUROCORES Scheme enshrines ESF’s goals of enhancing synergy at a pan-European level by providing a framework to bring together national research funding organisations and supporting interdisciplinary research in non-traditional areas, thereby opening new horizons in science.
ESF oversees the process of selecting EUROCORES programmes from start-to-finish, including an international peer review panel, a ranking process and research dissemination activities.
EUROCORES programmes are broad and complex in nature, with topics selected through an open call for themes. Uniquely, EUROCORES networking activities bring together researchers who will eventually conduct their research at the bench together.
EUROCORES also features a complementary scheme in the social sciences called the “European Collaborative Research Projects” (ECRP) scheme, which has no thematic orientation to its annual Call for Proposals. Please click here for more information.
