The European Science Foundation (ESF) and the Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen Forschung in Österreich (FWF), in partnership with the Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck (LFUI), have agreed to co-sponsor a series of Scientific Conferences, within the framework of the ESF Research Conferences Scheme. The Series will be known as ESF-FWF Conferences in Partnership with LFUI, and will be at the highest scientific level with respect to topics and choice of participants.

The Conferences will bring together participants and experts in the areas of Physics/Biophysics and Environmental Sciences to discuss topics that are of major importance to the scientific community in Europe. Conferences will take place at the Universitätszentrum Obergurgl, Tirol, Austria.
The Austrian Science Fund is Austria’s central body for the promotion of basic research and a Member Organization of ESF. It is equally committed to all branches of science and the humanities and in all its activities is guided solely by the standards of the international scientific community. It funds precisely defined research projects by individual applicants or groups of applicants from all scientific areas, insofar as they serve further development of such areas.
The Leopold-Franzens-Universität Innsbruck was founded in 1669 with a faculty of philosophy. Today with 15 faculties, 3300 employees and 20 000 students the LFUI is one of the three major full universities in Austria. As part of the new University Law 2002 the university’s legal capacity was largely expanded securing autonomy in personel, finance and organization. The LFUI considers itself a research based and research oriented university adhering to the highest teaching standards possible.
